American Rock Band Singing Akira Kurosawa

''...the strength of the Kurosawa images is stunning. The editing of the video really enhances the rhtyhm of the tune.'' One of the first comment in last nights official Youtube release of Ben Miller Bands latest track Akira Kurosawa from their new album 'Choke Cherry Tree,' available Jan 26.

The Ben Miller Band was formed in 2005 in Joplin, Missouri. The Band combines elements of folk, blues, bluegrass, and country into their music. Originally, their sound had been self-described by the band as "Ozark Stomp" but in reference to their label, is now referred to as "Mudstomp"

Akira Kurosawa (黒沢 明, March 23, 1910 – September 6, 1998)
Rolling Stones mag wrote in their November issue, ''the work of a legendary Japanese filmmaker may not be the first touchstone one might think of as fodder for a Ben Miller Band song. Nonetheless, the Missouri outfit salutes one such director in their latest song, "Akira Kurosawa." A stomping rocker that boasts a monstrous, wicked riff and compelling hook, "Akira Kurosawa" is a stream-of-consciousness rumination on film and the nature of creating art.''

lead vocalist and guitarist Ben Miller told in an informal gathering, when he was a kid, his father liked watching John Wayne and Kurosawa movies.About the craft of the lyric Ben said, it switches perspective from chorus to interactive verses. The verses are according to Ben are the perspective of an actor.

Kurosawa, one of the most influencial fimmaker of our time, how would he appreciate Ben Miller Band's tribute?Well, other than writing the origianl scripts for his film, Kurosawa also adopted from Shakespear and Dostoyevsky.Kurosawa used paintings as storyboards to assist his crew in the construction and filming of the scenes. No doubt that the 'switching of perspective' as Ben Miller said would seat pretty well with the maker of Kagemusha and Ran!
